John Teachman, representing Mount Pleasant Track Club and Wando High in South Carolina, placed second in the boys 15-16 javelin throw final with a third-round effort of 164-9 (50.23m) at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships at Sacramento State. Teachman, who also finished ninth in the 3,000 meters at 9:28.79 and 10th in the 1,500 meters at 4:19.65, led the javelin entering the sixth round, before being passed by Omer Inan, Jr., of Walton Youth Track Club in Georgia and his 168-5 (51.34m) performance.
